The Hamiltonstövare is a Swedish breed developed in the late 19th century by Count Adolf Patrick Hamilton, founder of the Swedish Kennel Club, through crosses of German hounds such as the Heiderbracke with English Foxhounds and local Swedish dogs. It is a friendly, even-tempered, and energetic breed that is affectionate with family while maintaining a strong independent hunting drive. Originally bred to hunt fox and hare by scent across the varied Swedish landscape, it was designed to work alone rather than in packs.
