The Border Collie originated along the border region between Scotland and England in the 19th century, developed from a long line of working sheepdogs refined for peak herding performance in the rugged British countryside. They are extraordinarily intelligent, intensely focused, energetic, and highly trainable dogs widely regarded as the most intelligent of all dog breeds. They were bred to herd sheep with remarkable precision using an intense hypnotic stare known as the 'eye,' capable of working vast flocks with minimal direction from a shepherd.
