The Griffon Fauve de Bretagne is one of France's oldest scent hound breeds, originating in the Brittany region and dating back to at least the fourteenth century. It is a courageous, tenacious, and cheerful breed that is affectionate and lively in the home while remaining a relentless and determined hunter in the field. This breed was developed to hunt large game including wolf and boar across the dense forests and rough terrain of northwestern France.
