The Bolonka, or Bolonka Zwetna, is a Russian toy breed developed in the Soviet Union during the 20th century from small companion breeds including the Bichon, French Bolognese, and Toy Poodle, refined to produce a colorful lapdog suited for apartment living. They are affectionate, playful, gentle, and sociable dogs that thrive on human companionship and get along well with children and other pets. They were bred as companion and lapdog breeds during the Soviet era when small decorative dogs were a rarity, intended to be adaptable and loving household pets.
