The Basset Fauve de Bretagne originates from Brittany in northwestern France, where it was developed in the 19th century as a smaller version of the Grand Fauve de Bretagne. It is a lively, courageous, and affectionate breed that combines a cheerful companion temperament with a determined hunting instinct. This breed was developed to hunt rabbit and hare through the dense, thorny undergrowth of the Breton countryside.
