The Cavalier King Charles Spaniel was developed in Great Britain and is named after King Charles II, who was famously devoted to small spaniel-type dogs in the 17th century. It is an affectionate, gentle, and sociable breed that thrives on human companionship and gets along well with children, other dogs, and even cats. Originally bred as a companion and lap dog for royalty and nobility, it retains a gentle sporting instinct from its spaniel heritage.
