The Sarabi, also known as the Iranian Mastiff or Persian Mastiff, is a large livestock guardian breed originating from the Sarab region of northwestern Iran and the East Azerbaijan province. They are courageous, independent, and deeply loyal dogs with a calm demeanor in peacetime but a fearless protective instinct when their flock or family is threatened. This breed was developed over centuries by Iranian nomads to guard flocks of sheep and goats against predators including wolves and bears in harsh mountainous terrain.
