The Shar Pei is an ancient Chinese breed originating from the Guangdong province of China, with evidence of its existence dating back over two thousand years to the Han Dynasty. It is a dignified, loyal, and somewhat aloof dog that is deeply devoted to its family while being reserved and independent around strangers. This breed was originally developed as a multipurpose working dog used for hunting, herding, and guarding, and was also historically employed in dog fighting in China.
