The Treeing Walker Coonhound originated in the United States, developed in the 19th century by John W. Walker of Kentucky from English Foxhound stock with the influence of a stolen dog known as the Tennessee Lead. It is a confident, intelligent, and sociable dog with a competitive nature that thrives on activity and the thrill of the hunt. The breed was developed to track and tree raccoons and other game with remarkable speed, endurance, and a clear, bugling voice.
