The Chilean Terrier is Chile's only native breed, developed in the 19th century from Fox Terriers brought by British immigrants crossed with local South American dogs. It is an alert, lively, and intelligent breed that is highly adaptable and forms strong bonds with its family while being naturally suspicious of strangers. This breed was originally developed as a ratter and vermin hunter, helping to control rodent populations on Chilean farms and in homes.
