The Segugio Italiano a Pelo Raso shares the same ancient lineage as its wire-coated counterpart, originating from dogs of Egyptian and Phoenician origin that were later shaped into a distinct breed on the Italian peninsula. It is a lively, gentle, and loyal dog that is equally capable as a hunter and as a devoted companion at home. This smooth-coated variety was developed to hunt hare and small game using its keen nose and impressive stamina across varied Italian landscapes.
