Developed in the Soviet Union during the 20th century, the East European Shepherd was bred by crossing German Shepherds with local Russian breeds to create a hardier working dog suited to harsh climates. They are loyal, confident, and highly trainable, forming strong bonds with their handlers while remaining naturally protective and alert. This breed was developed primarily for military, police, and border patrol work in the USSR.
