The Belgian Laekenois is the rarest of the four Belgian Shepherd varieties, originating from the Laeken region near Brussels, Belgium, where it was developed in the late 19th century. It is an alert, intelligent, and devoted breed with a protective instinct and strong bond to its handler, combined with the characteristic versatility of all Belgian Shepherds. This breed was historically used to herd sheep and guard linen drying on the fields around Brussels.
