One of the oldest pointing breeds, the French Spaniel originated in France and was developed during the Middle Ages, with written records of the breed dating as far back as the 14th century. They are gentle, willing, and social dogs with a calm and patient temperament that makes them excellent both in the field and as family companions. Bred as a versatile hunting dog, the French Spaniel was used to point and retrieve upland game birds in the diverse landscapes of France.
