The Bichon Frisé has its origins in the Mediterranean region, likely descending from water spaniels, and became particularly popular in France and Spain during the Renaissance where it was a favorite of European nobility. It is a cheerful, gentle, and playful breed known for its affectionate personality, sociability with strangers and other pets, and its famously powder-puff white coat. This breed was developed as a companion dog and entertainer, historically used by sailors for trade and later performing in circuses and street entertainment.
