The Cane Paratore is a traditional Italian herding breed with ancient origins in the central Apennine regions of Italy, used for centuries by transhumant shepherds who moved their flocks seasonally between lowland and highland pastures. It is an intelligent, alert, and agile dog known for its strong herding instinct, endurance, and close working relationship with shepherds. The breed was specifically developed to herd and drive large flocks of sheep along the ancient drover roads of Italy known as tratturi.
