The Standard Schnauzer is the oldest of the three Schnauzer varieties, originating in Germany during the Middle Ages and depicted in art as far back as the 15th century. It is a bold, spirited, and highly intelligent breed known for its loyalty, independence, and sometimes stubborn character. Originally bred as a versatile farm dog, it was used for ratting, guarding property, and herding livestock.
