The Dandie Dinmont Terrier originated in the border region between Scotland and England in the early 18th century and gained its name from a character in Sir Walter Scott's 1815 novel 'Guy Mannering.' It is an independent, determined, and affectionate dog with a surprisingly deep bark and a dignified, calm demeanor compared to many other terriers. The breed was developed to hunt otter and badger along the hillsides and waterways of the Scottish and English borderlands.
