Chortai

The Chortai is a rare Russian sighthound breed with ancient origins, believed to have descended from eastern coursing hounds brought to Russia via trade routes and refined over centuries in the steppes of eastern Europe. It is an elegant, swift, and independent breed that is gentle and affectionate with its family yet possesses a strong prey drive in the field. This breed was developed for coursing hare and other small game across the open grasslands and plains of eastern Russia and Ukraine.
