The Bavarian Mountain Hound was developed in Bavaria, Germany, during the 19th century through crosses between the Hanover Hound and lighter Alpine Hound breeds. It is a calm, devoted, and highly focused breed that is reserved with strangers but strongly bonded to its handler, making it well-suited to close working relationships. This specialist scent dog was developed for tracking wounded game, particularly deer, over the difficult terrain of the Bavarian Alps.
