The Bearded Collie originates from Scotland, where it has been used as a sheepdog for centuries, with some historians suggesting descent from Polish Lowland Sheepdogs brought to Scotland in the 16th century. It is a boisterous, intelligent, and charismatic breed with an independent streak, known for its bouncy personality and affectionate nature with its family. This breed was developed to herd and drive sheep and cattle across the challenging Highland terrain of Scotland.
