The Hygen Hound is a Norwegian scent hound developed in the early 19th century by Norwegian breeder Hans Fredrik Hygen, who created the breed through crosses of various Scandinavian and German hound breeds. It is a hardy, energetic, and determined dog with a cheerful temperament, strong stamina, and the persistent, independent nature common to working scent hounds. This breed was developed to hunt hare by scent in the cold and demanding Norwegian winter conditions, prized for its ability to work tirelessly in snow and harsh terrain.
