The Petit Basset Griffon Vendéen originated in the Vendée region of France, developed over several centuries as a smaller variant of the Basset Griffon Vendéen family of scent hounds. It is an extroverted, happy, and independent dog known for its lively spirit, friendly nature, and stubborn streak typical of scenthounds. This breed was developed to hunt small game such as rabbits through the dense, thorny brush of the Vendée countryside, working close to the ground with great stamina.
