The Pyrenean Mastiff is an ancient breed originating from the Kingdom of Aragon in northeastern Spain, with roots tracing back thousands of years to livestock guardian dogs brought by traders and settlers. It is a gentle, calm, and noble dog that is affectionate with its family while remaining naturally protective and watchful with strangers. The breed was developed to protect large flocks of sheep from wolves and bears during seasonal migrations across the Pyrenean mountains.
