The Glen of Imaal Terrier originated in the Glen of Imaal in County Wicklow, Ireland, and is one of the four native Irish terrier breeds. They are spirited yet gentle dogs with a quiet, stoic demeanor that sets them apart from more excitable terriers. They were originally bred to hunt foxes and badgers and were also used to turn a treadwheel called a turnspit to rotate meat over a fire.
