The Bullmastiff was developed in 19th-century England by crossing the English Mastiff with the Old English Bulldog to produce a powerful yet agile guard dog. It is a loyal, confident, and calm breed that is deeply devoted to its family while being naturally reserved and assertive with strangers. The breed was originally created to assist English gamekeepers in apprehending poachers on large estates, using its size and strength to silently track and pin down intruders without mauling them.
