The Briquet Griffon Vendéen originated in the Vendée region of western France and is a medium-sized descendant of the larger Grand Griffon Vendéen, selectively bred down in size over centuries. It is an enthusiastic, courageous, and sociable breed with a cheerful disposition and strong determination in the field. This breed was developed primarily to hunt hare and other game across the dense brush and varied terrain of the Vendée countryside.
