The Mantiqueira Shepherd originates from the Serra da Mantiqueira mountain region of Brazil, where it developed over generations as a landrace herding dog adapted to local conditions. It is an intelligent, loyal, and hardworking dog with strong protective instincts and a devoted bond to its owner and livestock. This breed was developed by rural farmers and ranchers to herd and guard cattle and other livestock across the rugged Brazilian highland terrain.
