The Karelo-Finnish Laika is one of the oldest Spitz-type breeds, originating in the Karelia region shared by Finland and Russia, developed by indigenous forest-dwelling peoples. It is an energetic, alert, and spirited dog that is devoted to its family but can be reserved with strangers and assertive with other animals. This breed was primarily developed to hunt small game such as squirrel and marten, as well as birds, using its bark to locate and tree prey.
