Alaskan Malamute

The Alaskan Malamute is one of the oldest Arctic sled dog breeds, originating with the Mahlemut Inuit people of northwestern Alaska thousands of years ago. They are affectionate, loyal, playful, and stubbornly independent dogs with tremendous strength and endurance and a friendly demeanor toward people. This breed was developed to haul heavy freight over long distances through deep snow and brutal Arctic conditions, playing a critical role in the survival of the indigenous peoples who developed them.
