The Golden Retriever was developed in Scotland during the mid-19th century by Lord Tweedmouth, who aimed to create an ideal gundog suited to the Scottish Highland terrain. They are famously friendly, reliable, and trustworthy dogs with a gentle temperament that makes them excellent family companions and therapy animals. Originally bred to retrieve waterfowl and upland game birds during hunting expeditions, their soft mouth and love of water made them exceptionally well-suited for the task.
