The Ariégeois is a French scenthound developed in the Ariège department of southern France in the early 20th century through crosses between the Grand Bleu de Gascogne, the Briquet, and local Ariège hounds. They are gentle, sociable, and good-natured dogs that work well in packs and are devoted to their owners. Bred to hunt hare and other small game through the rugged and hilly terrain of the Pyrenean foothills in southern France.
