The Kangal Shepherd Dog originated in the Sivas province of Turkey and is considered a national treasure of Turkey, with records of the breed stretching back many centuries in the Anatolian region. They are calm, independent, and protective dogs that are deeply devoted to their flock and family, displaying a self-assured confidence and natural guarding instinct. They were developed to independently guard livestock against large predators such as wolves, bears, and jackals across the vast Anatolian plains without direction from a human handler.
