The Moscow Watchdog was developed in the Soviet Union during the mid-20th century, primarily by crossing Saint Bernards with Caucasian Shepherd Dogs. It is a confident, alert, and protective breed that is loyal to its family while remaining wary of strangers. It was bred to serve as a large, capable guard dog that combined the imposing size of the Saint Bernard with the territorial instincts of the Caucasian Ovcharka.
