The Grand Bleu de Gascogne is one of the oldest French scent hound breeds, originating in the Gascony region of southwestern France, with roots believed to trace back to antiquity and possibly to Phoenician trade hounds. They are noble, gentle, and even-tempered dogs that are affectionate with their families but deeply driven by scent and utterly focused when hunting. Bred to hunt large game such as wolf, deer, and boar in large packs, they are prized for their extraordinary nose, deep musical voice, and remarkable endurance.
