The Broholmer is an ancient Danish mastiff-type breed with origins dating back to the Middle Ages, named after Sehested of Broholm who helped standardize the breed in the 18th century. It is a calm, good-natured, and confident dog known for its gentle temperament with family while remaining watchful toward strangers. The breed was historically used as a guard dog on large Danish estates and was also employed for hunting large game such as deer.
