The Mackenzie River Husky is a general term for a type of large sled dog developed in the Mackenzie River delta region of northwestern Canada, descending from dogs bred by Indigenous peoples and later influenced by European breeds. It is a powerful, resilient, and hard-working dog with strong endurance and adaptability to extreme cold, though it can be gentle and loyal with familiar people. This type was bred and used for hauling heavy freight sleds over long distances across the subarctic wilderness of northern Canada and Alaska.
