The Black Norwegian Elkhound is an ancient Scandinavian breed originating in Norway, considered a separate and distinct breed from the Grey Norwegian Elkhound, with roots tracing back thousands of years. They are bold, energetic, loyal, and alert dogs with a strong independent streak and deep devotion to their families. They were developed to hunt large Scandinavian game, particularly moose and elk, by tracking, holding, and baying at the quarry until the hunter arrived.
