The Braque du Bourbonnais is one of the oldest French pointing breeds, originating in the Bourbonnais region of central France with written descriptions dating back to the late 15th century, though the breed nearly went extinct in the early 20th century before being revived in the 1970s. They are calm, affectionate, gentle, and biddable dogs that are highly adaptable and make excellent companions both in the field and in the home. They were developed as a close-working bird dog renowned for their natural pointing instinct and ability to hunt a variety of game birds across diverse French terrain.
