The Braque d'Auvergne is a French pointing breed originating in the Cantal region of the Auvergne in central France, with a history believed to date back to the Knights of Malta who brought hunting dogs to France during the medieval period. They are calm, gentle, intelligent, and devoted dogs that are eager to please and form strong bonds with their owners and families. They were bred as a versatile bird dog used to point and retrieve game across the volcanic plateaus and rugged highland terrain of central France.
