The Slovenský Kopov, also known as the Slovak Hound or Black Forest Hound, is a scenthound breed that originated in Slovakia and is considered the country's national dog, with roots traceable to ancient hunting dogs of Central Europe. They are tenacious, passionate, and highly independent dogs with strong hunting instincts and a loyal bond to their handler, though their drive and energy require experienced ownership. Bred primarily to hunt wild boar alone or in small packs across the dense forests and rugged terrain of the Carpathian region, the Slovenský Kopov is known for its exceptional stamina and powerful nose.
