The Castro Laboreiro Dog originates from the village of Castro Laboreiro in northern Portugal, where it has been bred for many centuries by local communities. It is a serious, alert, and fiercely loyal breed known for its distinctive nocturnal bark, which it uses to warn off predators. This breed was developed primarily as a livestock guardian, protecting cattle and flocks from wolves in the harsh mountainous terrain of northern Portugal.
